Nissan Car Keys Dublin – Replacement Keys, Spares & Programming

Nissan key jobs can be very different depending on the age and model. An older Micra, Note or Primera may use a more conventional transponder key, while later Qashqai, Juke, X-Trail and Leaf models can use remote or Intelligent Key systems with push-button start.

If the only Nissan key has gone missing, we normally start with the registration, model and year so we can work out what key system the vehicle is likely to use. On many models the job can involve both cutting the correct blade and programming the transponder, remote or smart key so the immobiliser recognises it. Our mobile auto locksmiths can carry out Nissan key replacement, cutting and programming at the vehicle for many models around Dublin.

If you still have one working key, getting a spare Nissan key made is normally the better position to be in. We regularly get enquiries for Qashqai, Micra, Juke, X-Trail, Leaf and Note keys, as well as Navara, NV200 and Primastar or NV300 work vehicles.

The fault is not always that the whole key has failed either. A Nissan remote can stop locking and unlocking while the car still starts, or a smart key can give a “Key Not Detected” warning even though the fob is still present. We normally ask exactly what the vehicle is doing before deciding whether the problem is the battery, remote, transponder, smart key or something on the car itself.

Nissan Key Problems We Deal With Every Day

◉

Nissan key not being recognised; the blade may still turn or the remote may still work, but if the immobiliser is not reading the transponder properly the vehicle may refuse to start.

⛔

“Key Not Detected” on a Qashqai, Juke or X-Trail; this does not automatically mean the Intelligent Key needs replacing. A weak fob battery, damaged smart key or a fault on the vehicle side can all produce similar symptoms, so we normally check what the car is actually doing first.

🔑

Nissan remote buttons have stopped working; a Micra, Note or Qashqai can still start normally even when the locking buttons or casing have failed. In that situation the transponder may still be fine and the whole key does not necessarily need replacing.

+

All Nissan keys lost; when there is no working key left, we first identify the correct key, blade and security system and then cut and programme a replacement where the particular Nissan system allows it.

◌

Nissan key works one minute and not the next; intermittent smart-key faults can be awkward to pin down. If you have a spare, trying it is genuinely useful — if one key works every time and the other does not, that immediately gives us somewhere sensible to start.

⎘

Spare Nissan key needed; making a second Qashqai, Micra, Juke, Leaf or Navara key while one working key is still available is normally much easier than waiting until the last key has disappeared.

Nissan Models We Commonly Deal With

Nissan has used everything from fairly straightforward transponder keys on older cars to remote and Intelligent Key systems on later models. These are some of the Nissans we regularly get key enquiries for around Dublin.

Qashqai Micra Juke X-Trail Leaf Note Pulsar Primera Almera Navara NV200 NV300 Primastar

The model name alone does not always tell us which Nissan key is fitted. The year and registration help us check whether we are dealing with a normal transponder key, remote key or an Intelligent Key / proximity system before attending.

How a Nissan Key Job Works

We have dealt with Nissan jobs ranging from spare Micra and Qashqai remote keys to smart keys, vehicle openings and Qashqai ignition repairs, so the first thing we do is work out which part of the Nissan key or lock system is actually causing the problem.

01

Tell Us Exactly What the Nissan Is Doing

Give us the model, year and registration and tell us what has happened. It might be a Qashqai that needs another smart key, a Juke or Micra needing a remote, an X-Trail spare key, keys locked inside a Note, or a key that is giving trouble in the ignition.

02

We Work Out Which Part of the Job It Is

We check whether we are dealing with a normal transponder key, remote key, Nissan smart key, blade or an ignition problem. That matters because supplying another key is not the right answer if the fault is actually in the ignition or another part of the vehicle.

03

We Attend the Nissan and Do the Work

Depending on the job, that can mean supplying and programming a remote or smart key, cutting the blade, opening the vehicle or dealing with the ignition. For many Nissan key jobs we can carry out the work at the vehicle rather than having the car recovered elsewhere.

This is why we do not treat every Nissan call as “just another key”; our own job records include remote keys for Micra, Note, Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail, smart-key work on Qashqai, Nissan vehicle openings and Qashqai ignition repairs. If the key is turning badly, not being recognised, locked inside the car or simply missing, those are different jobs and we approach them differently.

Nissan Car Key FAQs

These are the sort of Nissan key questions we get from drivers around Dublin — from somebody looking for a spare Micra key to a Qashqai owner getting a “Key Not Detected” warning or somebody with no working key left at all.

How much does a Nissan replacement key cost in Dublin?

It depends on which Nissan you have and what has actually happened. A spare remote key for an older Micra is a different job from replacing a smart key on a later Qashqai, Juke or X-Trail. Whether there is still a working key, whether the vehicle uses a transponder or Intelligent Key system, and whether a blade has to be cut all affect the job. Send us the registration, model and year and we can normally narrow it down properly before attending.

I have lost the only key to my Nissan. Can you still make another one?

On many Nissan models, yes. An all-keys-lost job is more involved because there is no working key left to copy or compare with. We first establish the correct key system, blade and programming requirements for the vehicle and then make and program the replacement where the Nissan system allows it. For many jobs this can be done at the vehicle, which can avoid having to arrange recovery elsewhere.

My Qashqai says “Key Not Detected”. Does that mean the smart key is dead?

Not necessarily. We would first want to know whether the problem is constant or intermittent and whether you have a spare key. A weak fob battery, damaged Intelligent Key or a communication problem on the vehicle side can all give similar symptoms. If one key works every time and the other does not, that is useful information. If neither works, we would be slower to assume both keys have failed.

The buttons on my Nissan key have stopped working but the car still starts. Do I need a new key?

Not always. The remote locking side and the immobiliser side of the key are separate functions. We see Nissan keys where the buttons, battery or case are giving trouble but the transponder still starts the car perfectly well. We would rather check what part has actually failed before telling somebody they need the whole key replaced.

Can you make a spare Nissan Qashqai or Micra key?

Yes, these are exactly the sort of Nissan spare-key jobs we deal with. If you still have one working key, that is normally the best time to get another one made. It is much easier to sort a spare Qashqai, Micra, Juke, Note or X-Trail key while the vehicle is still usable than wait until the last one has disappeared.

Can you program a Nissan Intelligent Key at the vehicle?

For many supported Nissan models, yes. We can attend the vehicle with automotive key programming equipment and deal with remote or smart-key work where the system allows it. The exact procedure depends on the Nissan model, year and security system, so we check the vehicle details first rather than promising the same process for every car.

Do you replace Nissan Leaf keys as well?

Yes, Nissan Leaf key enquiries are part of the Nissan work we can check. Leaf models commonly use smart or proximity keys rather than the older conventional key setup, so the exact year and vehicle details matter. If the key has been lost, damaged or is no longer being recognised, send us the registration and year and we can check the likely key system before attendance.

My Nissan key goes into the ignition but feels wrong or will not turn properly. Is that still a key job?

It might be the key, but not always. We have dealt with Nissan ignition work as well as replacement keys, so if the key is sticking, turning badly or refusing to turn, we do not automatically assume another key will solve it. The blade may be worn, but the ignition itself can also be the problem and needs to be checked separately.

I have locked the keys inside my Nissan. Can you open it without making another key?

Yes, a vehicle opening and a replacement-key job are not the same thing. If the key is simply locked inside the car, the immediate job is normally to regain access without unnecessary damage. Once the vehicle is open, we only need to look at replacement or programming if there is actually something wrong with the key itself.

Why do you need my Nissan registration and year before giving a quote?

Because a Nissan key is not one standard part. An older Micra with a transponder key and a later keyless Qashqai can require completely different keys and procedures. Even the same model can change across generations. The registration and year help us check the likely key, blade, transponder or Intelligent Key system and bring the right equipment for the job.

Do you do Nissan Navara, NV200 and Primastar keys?

Yes, commercial Nissan vehicles matter as well. If the only key to a Navara, NV200 or Primastar is lost, there is often more at stake than simply getting home — tools, deliveries or a day’s work may depend on that vehicle. Tell us the model, year and what happened and we can check what key work can be carried out at the vehicle.

My Nissan key was stolen. Can the old key be removed from the car?

On Nissan systems where the programming procedure allows it, a missing or stolen key may be removed from the vehicle’s authorised key memory when the replacement or remaining keys are programmed. If the key was stolen rather than simply misplaced, tell us that from the start so we can check what is possible on that particular Nissan.

What We Look At When a Nissan Key Is Giving Trouble

Nissan is a good example of why we always ask for the model and year before saying too much about a key job. An older Micra, Note or Primera can use a fairly conventional transponder or remote key, while later Qashqai, Juke, X-Trail and Leaf models can use Nissan Intelligent Key systems with proximity entry and push-button start. They may all be Nissan keys, but they are not all dealt with in the same way.

If the Nissan says “Key Not Detected”, we do not automatically replace the fob; especially on Qashqai, Juke and X-Trail models. A weak key battery, damaged Intelligent Key or a communication issue on the vehicle side can all give a similar warning. If there is a spare key, trying that first is one of the simplest and most useful checks. One key working and the other not working tells us something straight away.

The remote working does not necessarily mean the whole key is fine; a Nissan can still lock and unlock from the buttons but fail to start if the transponder or immobiliser side is not being recognised properly. The opposite can happen too — the vehicle starts normally but the buttons no longer work. Those are two different faults, and we would rather establish which side has failed before replacing anything.

We have dealt with Nissan remote-key work on models such as Micra, Note, Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail, as well as smart-key work on Qashqai. That range is exactly why we do not treat every Nissan key enquiry as the same job. The key shape, transponder, remote system and programming procedure can all change between models and generations.

Losing the last Nissan key is a very different job from making a spare; if one key is still working, making another is normally the easier position to be in. Once every key is gone, we first have to identify the correct key and security system, establish what blade or emergency key is required and then deal with the programming side where the particular Nissan system allows it.

That is one reason we ask for the registration and year before attending. A Qashqai can span several generations and not every Qashqai uses the same key. The same applies to Micra, X-Trail and other long-running Nissan models. Those details help us narrow down the likely remote, transponder or Intelligent Key setup and avoid arriving with the wrong key or equipment.

Sometimes the Nissan key is not the problem at all; we have dealt with Nissan ignition work as well as replacement keys. If the key is sticking, difficult to turn or will not turn properly, supplying another key without checking the ignition can completely miss the fault. We want to know what the car is actually doing before deciding which part needs attention.

A worn remote case can look worse than the key really is; particularly on older Nissan remote keys. Buttons wear through, cases split and blades become loose, but the transponder inside may still start the vehicle normally. In those cases it is worth separating a damaged case or remote problem from an immobiliser problem rather than assuming the entire key has failed.

The blade and the electronic side still have to work together; even Nissan smart keys can have a mechanical emergency blade inside them. Where a blade is required, the correct blank and cuts have to match the lock. On some jobs a key code can help determine the correct cuts and depths, while programming deals with the transponder or Intelligent Key separately.

Vehicle opening is another completely different Nissan job; if somebody has simply locked the keys inside a Note, Qashqai or another Nissan, there may be nothing wrong with the key at all. The immediate job is getting the vehicle open without unnecessary damage. We only move into replacement or programming if the key itself is actually lost or faulty.

Nissan work vehicles need the same practical approach; on a Navara, NV200 or Primastar, losing the only key can put a day’s work on hold. There may be tools inside, deliveries to make or jobs already booked. Where the vehicle and security system allow it, our mobile auto locksmiths can attend the vehicle and deal with the key work there rather than making recovery the first step.

After years of car key work around Dublin , the most useful information is still fairly simple: which Nissan is it, what year is it, is there any working key left and what exactly happens when you try to use it? From there we can work out whether the job is a remote key, smart key, programming, blade cutting, vehicle opening, ignition problem or something that needs a closer look before anybody starts replacing parts.

Dyno Locks has been working across Dublin and Ireland for around 30 years, and over that time we have dealt with nearly every kind of car key and vehicle lock problem you can come across. We are well known in Dublin and have built up a strong reputation over the years for car keys, lockouts, immobiliser problems and key programming. A lot of main dealers will not bring specialist key cutting or programming equipment out to the car, so in some cases the vehicle may have to be brought back to the dealer, which can mean extra time and cost. With a mobile auto locksmith, we can often bring the equipment to you and cut, replace or program a new key at the vehicle where the car allows it.
